Bang! My head and shoulder connect in tandem like a roller coaster on that old musty floor. Pain has replaced the darkness as a sound now pierces through my being, jolting me back to the living. I can't describe it other than it sounds like a single dying note slowly being stretched back and forth. Squinting through the tears, double vision begins to distort my world as the sound intensifies. Red permeates all that is. I need to move, but my limbs want to lay idle. Fear is a hungry animal. Something has taken their attention. I see a form leave hastily. And then red begins to flicker with another sound I know too well. Fire!
"Move! Move! Move!" I scream inside as my body reboots. My leg is still throbbing from that nail I fell on when entering this nightmare. Mind over matter. I push myself up only to fall back down. Every breath is now crushing my lungs as the smoke grows. Crawling inch by inch I can see the where I entered. I never thought I would be so thankful to feel the cool dew of the grass at night. But that thankfulness is overshadowed by the intensity of my gulping for air as I cough without rest.
The concussion distorts my vision while my eyes burn from the smoke. But I need something for this pain and I see there is a home that might be refuge. It's going to be a long. Bang. Darkness returns as I feel a moment of piercing warmth as I fall back down.
